VISAKHAPATNAM, SEPT. 25. The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) launched the `Panchavati Vanabhivrudhi' programme near Pendurthy on Saturday. The Panchavati concept is based on the promotion of five gardens: Tapovanam, Brindavanam, Anandavanam, Prasanthavanam and Lakshminarayanavanam. The project, which will be extended to other areas, has been taken up at the Venkatadri shrine in association with the temple committee. The VUDA Vice-Chairman, Dasari Sreenivasulu, who inaugurated, donated Rs.1,116 for the planting of saplings in one of the gardens. Under the scheme, donations will be sought for raising medicinal and other plants. He said the rich surroundings added holiness to the pilgrim centres.
