Thundershowers likely in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI, SEPT. 25. Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Tamil Nadu and active over coastal Andhra Pradesh and interior Karnataka.

Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, at many places over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and interior Karnataka and at a few places over Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Karnataka dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep.

The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in cms.

Coonoor 12, Senkottai (Tirunelveli dt.) 11, Coimbatore Airport 10, Pullambadi (Tiruchirapalli dt.) 9, Andipatti (Theni dt.) Paramathi Velur (Namakkal dt.) and Dindigul 8 each and Mudukulathur (Ramanathapuram dt.) and Tondi 7 each.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms are: Kotagiri (Nilgiris dt.) and Mettupatti (Madurai dt.) 6 each,Erode, Prakasam Barrage (Krishna dt.), Navalgund (Dharwad dt.), Chickmagalur and Hassan 5 each, Guntur, Kavali,Hidkal Dam (Belgaum dt.) 4 each, Pudukottai, Barur (Dharmapuri dt.),Tiruchirapalli, Bhavani Sagar (Erode dt.), 3 each,Shravanabelgola (Hassan dt.), and Hunsur (Mysore dt.) 2 each and Gudalur Bazaar (Nilgiris dt.), Ongole, Kandukur (Prakasam dt.),Agumbe and Srinivasapura (Kolar dt.) 1 each.

FORECAST (valid until Monday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Kerala and Lakshadweep and at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, coastal and south interior Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over north interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Telangana.
