DAVANGERE, SEPT. 25. P.T. Parameshwara Naik, Harpanahalli MLA, has said that people of Harpanahalli town will get water from the Tungabhadra by the end of December and the town will not face drinking water shortage once the project is completed. When the problem of drinking water was raised at the Harpanahalli Town Panchayat meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Naik said that work on the project was in progress. He also said that he was in touch with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board in connection with the project. The MLA said that as the borewells and open wells in different places in the town yielded considerable amount of water, pipelines could be laid from these water sources to different residential areas in the town to solve the water problem. He also said that he would urge the Deputy Commissioner to release grants to provide potable water to the people. The town panchayat appointed the engineer, Nandyappa, to supervise the works to be taken up to provide drinking water to the town. Mr. Naik suggested that the panchayat purchase electrical equipment only from Mysore Lamps. He said that there would be an audit objection if equipment was purchased from other agencies. When a member, Abdul Rehaman, pointed out that Mysore Lamps had been shut down, the MLA said that their products were still available in the market. He asked the panchayat to purchase them to avoid audit objections. The meeting unanimously agreed to provide sites to various communities such as Madivala, Gangamatha, Kuruba, Jain, and Lambani.
