HYDERABAD, SEPT. 25. Inmates of a girls' hostel of the Central University clarified that they were not against the procession on the campus recently and were only objecting to its entry into the hostel premises and the bursting of crackers. In response to a news item published in these columns on Saturday, four girl students issued a statement explaining that they only requested the students not to burst crackers, as it was getting dangerous.
Human chain
<167,2p,1>"The chief warden was informed about it and a human chain was formed so that the tractor carrying the Ganesh idol could not move out of the hostel. The intention was to let the chief warden come and witness the forceful entry," the statement said. The girls alleged that boys pushed the girls in the human chain, abused them and twisted their arms. Based on the chief warden's directions a complaint was lodged with the University Disciplinary Committee and with the Committee on Sexual Harassment. The girls also refuted the charge that they were involved in a poster campaign against the installation of Ganesh idol. "The girls were merely expressing concern about their safety and security and had nothing to do with any ongoing political conflicts on campus," the statement clarified.
