This Day That Age
A joint statement of the Prime Ministers of India and Indonesia, issued on September 25 at the conclusion of the four-day talks in New Delhi, recorded agreement on the need for a conference at an early date of representatives of Asian-African countries for promoting the cause of peace and for a common approach to problems facing this region. It was agreed that the Prime Ministers of the Colombo Conference nations should meet in Jakarta just prior to the Asian-African conference to settle the agenda and also discuss the international developments. The two Prime Ministers discussed the SEATO and other developments in Asia and that they were in general agreement about the approach to these problems. At a press conference, the Indonesian Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Sastroamidjojo, said he expected the Asian-African conference to be held at the level of Prime Ministers or Foreign Ministers who would be in a position to take decisions on behalf of their countries.
