BIJAPUR, SEPT. 26. The district administration has initiated criminal proceedings against three former Executive Officers and a junior engineer of the Indi Taluk Panchayat on charges of misappropriation of public funds granted for a housing scheme. The Executive Officer of the taluk panchayat, S.B. Thippeswami, filed a complaint with the Indi Police on Friday against three of his predecessors, B.H. Bellad, S.H. Mamadapur, and B.G. Choudappanavar, and C.B. Sardeshpande, a junior engineer, for misappropriating funds meant for constructing houses under the Padnur Village Rehabilitation Programme. The Government had decided to relocate the habitation of the flood-prone Padnur village on the banks of the Bheema, and sanctioned Rs. 75 lakhs for the programme in the late 1990s. However, the accused had siphoned off around Rs. 12 lakhs by submitting fake documents, it is alleged.
