RIYADH: A Frenchman shot dead in Saudi Arabia on Sunday has been identified as a technician who worked on Saudi naval contracts. The Interior Ministry said a ``French resident'' had been killed in Jeddah. A Saudi security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the French national had been shot while driving in the Al-Tarikh area. The Ministry did not give any indication of the motive or other details. There have been a spate of attacks against foreigners in Saudi Arabia by militants determined to drive foreigners out of the country to hurt the economy. The Saudi economy, particularly the oil sector, depends on foreign workers. AP
