Himachal Pradesh
By Our Staff Correspondent
Compared to other hilly regions in the country, Himachal Pradesh has made significant development in the field of Industrialisation. Emphasis is being laid on setting up of industrial units which are environment-friendly and based on local raw material. Today the State has 211 medium and large-scale units and about 30,850 small-scale units with an investment of about Rs.3170 crores which generate employment for about 1.64 lakh persons, informed the spokesman.
An added advantage to the entrepreneurs here is that there is uninterrupted and dependable electricity supply. With a view to provide umbrella support to existing and new industrial ventures, the State Government has set up a state-level Single Window Clearance and Monitoring Authority this year to facilitate the entrepreneurs to discuss and solve all industry related and inter-departmental issues.
The Authority has given approval for setting up 124 medium and large-scale industrial units with an investment of about Rs.1671 crores. The new Industrial Policy of the State is also being formulated so as to reorient and focus government's efforts in infrastructure development and creation of a congenial investment climate. The Central Government has extended the validity of package of incentives for the industries to be set up in the State up to March 2007, said the spokesman.
