BHOPAL, SEPT. 26. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur, today said that the electricity crisis had been aggravated by the Central Government's decision to withhold the supply of 143 MW of power to the State. Talking to news persons, he said the Central Government's decision to withhold power supply comes at a time when the Governor, Balram Jakhar, has requested the Union Energy Minister to supply additional power to the State. However, Mr. Gaur expressed satisfaction saying that he was getting good cooperation from the Central Government. He particularly cited the example of the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Kamal Nath, who had helped in clearing two agro-based projects worth over Rs. 130 crores for Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, he pointed out that the Union Minister for Human Resources Development, Arjun Singh, wanted to give Sagar University the status of a National University. The Chief Minister said that electricity crisis and bad roads are the two major problems confronting the State. Regarding the condition of roads, he blamed the previous Congress regime and said that over Rs. 25,000 crores are needed to improve the situation. Taking the magnitude of the problem into consideration, the State Government planned to mobilise around Rs. 5,000 crores for building new roads and maintaining the existing network in the next two years, he added.
