Ministers' loyalty to Bharti natural: Jaitley

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, SEPT. 26. The Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary, Arun Jaitley, today denied that there was any inner-party rivalry in the Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP and said there was adequate coordination between the ruling party organization and the State Government led by Chief Minister Babulal Gaur.

Mr. Jaitley, who is in-charge of State BJP affairs, was here to conduct a review meeting of the State Ministers at the party headquarters. At the end of a marathon round of discussions, he told newspersons that such consultations with ministers and the party organization would be held regularly to discuss issues relating to governance and development.

Mr. Jaitley brushed aside questions put up by some journalists about reports that some State Ministers owing allegiance to the former Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, were in a rebellious mood and there were serious differences among State Ministers. He said there was neither any crisis within the State BJP nor the need to resolve any issue.

However, on being asked whether there were voices within the Cabinet seeking Ms. Bharti's return to power, he said that Ministers' allegiance to Ms. Bharti was quite natural and they were free to express their personal views or directly take up the matter with prominent party leaders. In the same context, he asserted that Ms. Bharti had announced a "positive roadmap" and a new leadership had emerged in the State.

On the former Union Minister, Prahlad Patel, filing his nomination for byelection to the Nohta Assembly constituency even after he was denied a party ticket, Mr. Jaitely said the "party has taken note of it". However, he added that this was now a closed chapter and Mr. Patel was a committed party worker.
