CHENNAI, SEPT. 26. Violin maestro Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan was conferred the `Sivan Isai Selvar,' title by A.V.M. Saravanan, on behalf of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Papanasam Sivan Rasikar Sangam in Chennai today. At the 114th birth anniversary celebrations of the composer organised by the Sangam, the violinist said that volunteers should work towards erecting a `Mani Mantapam' for the composer. K.S. Bhaktavatsalam, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra, said the divine vibrations of all the musical and devotional activities that took place in the four `Mada Veedis', of Mylapore pervaded the atmosphere. He said Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan was like a "departmental store. Whether it is folk, Carnatic, film music or bhajans, his violin actually speaks." R. Krishnaswami, secretary of Narada Gana Sabha released part five of the book, `Siva Sakthi Keerthanamalai,' containing compositions of Papanasam Sivan's daughter, Rukmini Ramani. In her tribute to Papanasam Sivan, R. Vedavalli, singer, said his lyrics had a profound meaning. A.V.M. Saravanan recalled the contributions of Papanasam Sivan since the time of the film Ratnavali, by Pragati Pictures in 1936. Former Doordarshan director, A. Natarajan, gave away prizes to winners of the competitions on Papanasam Sivan's compositions conducted on September 5 under several categories. Sowmya Rangarajan won the special prize of a tampura. Papanasam Sivan's grandson, Papanasam Ashok Ramani, read out the citation presented to Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan.
