Temperature

MADURAI, SEPT 26. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.4 degree Celsius.

The airport received a rainfall of 11.2 mm till 8.30 a.m. today.

Heavy rain

Heavy rain lashed the city on Saturday evening, flooding many roads.

Pedestrians had to wade through knee-deep water in many arterial roads.

Vehicle movement was disrupted at many points. Many localities went without power.

Water level

The level in Periyar dam stood at 114.8 feet, with an inflow of 1,609 cusecs and a discharge of 425 cusecs.

The level in Vaigai dam was 39.76 feet, with an inflow of 645 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs.

Kallandhiri recorded the highest rainfall of 80 mm followed by Madurai — 50.7 mm, Mettupatti — 50 mm, Chittampatti — 49 mm, Viraganoor — 46 mm, Melur — 30 mm, Tekkadi — 30 mm, Shanmuganadhi — 23 mm, Idaiyapatti — 19.2, Uttamapalayam — 19 mm, Andipatti (Madurai)— 18 mm, Gudalur — 17 mm, Kuppanampatti — 16 mm, Periyar dam — 13 mm, Sattayar — 12.6 mm, Thaniyamangalam — 12.5 mm, Bodinayakanur — 11 mm, Andipatti (Theni) — 10.4 mm, Vaigai dam — 10 mm, Pulipatti — 10 mm, Marudhanadhi — 9 mm, Veerapandi — 8 mm, Peranai — 3 mm and Manjalar dam — 3 mm.

Signature campaign

The Anti-Corruption Movement has decided to observe the first week of November as `Anti-Corruption Week'.

The resolution was adopted at a meeting of the executive committee held last week.

It also decided to collect one lakh signatures and send them to the Prime Minister to demand poll reforms.

Elected

The following have been elected office-bearers of the Madurai Kaithari Kavuli Urpathiyalargal Sangam for 2004-05: T.R. Kuppusamy (president); R.L.R. Krishnamoorthi (vice-president); D.R. Mothilal and V.L. Kuppusamy (honorary secretaries); and T.R. Kesavaram (treasurer).

A five-member executive committee was also elected at the general body meeting held on Thursday.
