PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 27. The Chairman of the Pondicherry Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (PTTDC), N. Gangadharan, has said an art and crafts village would come up at Murungapakkam near here to promote production and sale of handicrafts and handlooms. He said the Administration and the PTTDC were intensifying efforts to attract tourists from within the country and abroad. Infrastructure development was part of the promotion package, he said. Mr. Gangadharan was speaking at a function to flag off two city tour buses of the Corporation as part of World Tourism Day celebrations here today. He announced that the Bharathi Park and a stretch of Beach Road up to the new lighthouse would be given a Rs. 2.5 crores facelift. A tourist home would be built on the banks of the Chunnambar near Ariayankuppam. The Government would also provide a subsidy up to Rs. 30 lakhs for those coming forward to construct deluxe hotels.
