TAMBRALLI (BELLARY DT.), SEPT. 27. G. Karunakar Reddy, MP, has underlined the need to increase the literacy rate in the State. He was speaking after inaugurating an arch built to commemorate 100 years of the Government Higher Primary School at Tambralli in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk, Bellary district, on Sunday. Sri Charantajja Swamiji, inaugurated the function. Mr. Reddy said that teachers had a pivotal role to play in imparting education to children and ensuring that they become good and able citizens. The school was established in 1904 and was then known as Board Hindu Boys' School. It was later renamed as the Board Basic Higher Elementary School. This is the only school for several villages surrounding Tambralli. Following the completion of the Tungabhadra dam, the old Tambralli village was submerged and the school had to be rebuilt at the new village in 1953. G. Umesh, president of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat, urged entrusted with the task of educating children to discharge their duties properly. Sri Gavisiddeshwar Swamiji of Koppal Gavi Mutt stressed the need to inculcate self-confidence and patriotism among children. Anil Lad, Kudligi MLA, presided over the function and Andanappa, Block Education Officer, welcomed the gathering.
