Idols immersion peaceful in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD, SEPT. 27. The immersion of Ganesh idols was by and large peaceful in Gujarat today. Security was tight in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat where communal clashes had broken out in the past during immersion of idols. On the advice of the State Government, all mobile phone operators suspended the SMS service from 2 p.m. till midnight to prevent rumour mongering.

Two people were reportedly drowned in the Khar river while immersing an idol.
