Primary schools opened

NEW DELHI SEPT. 27. Three new primary school buildings constructed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were inaugurated by the Mayor, A.R. Verma, in South Delhi today.

According to an official release, the municipal primary school building at Manglapuri -- comprising nine classrooms -- has been constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs, while the one at Chandanhaula village -- with 14 classrooms -- has been constructed at a cost of Rs.41.74 lakhs. The cost incurred in construction of the primary school building at Asola that comprises nine classrooms was Rs.60.19 lakhs.

The Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, MLA, Balram Tanwar and Municipal Councillor, Meer Singh, were also present on the occasion.

`Strengthen insurance scheme'

NEW DELHI SEPT. 27. The Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L.Joshi, today called for strengthening the group insurance scheme for the Municipal Council of Delhi employees and also urged the civic body to increase its contribution towards the welfare of dependants.

Speaking at the first anniversary function of the Dependants of Deceased Municipal Employees Welfare Committee (DDMEWC) here today, Mr. Joshi said: "The dependants should get a big amount as compensation in the event of death of an MCD employee''

The Delhi Mayor, A.R. Verma, said: "The DDMEWC is providing free training in sewing, knitting, embroidery, cooking food, preparation of biscuits and bread to dependants and widows of deceased municipal employees. In addition, the Committee is also arranging training in weaving of chairs, computer operating and beautician course".

Workshop on ash utilisation

NEW DELHI SEPT. 27. "Coal has been playing a major role to meet the power needs of the country and it is going to remain so in the next few decades. Therefore clearing the stocks of fly-ash and matching fly-ash utilisation with its generation are challenges before the country, and a road map for full utilisation of fly-ash must be devised." This was stated by Gauri Chatterjee, Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Power, while inaugurating a one-day National Workshop on Ash Utilisation organised by the National Thermal Power Corporation here today in association with the Power Ministry, the Central Electricity Authority and the Central Department of Science and Technology. Speaking on the occasion, the NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, C.P. Jain, highlighted various steps taken for effective utilisation of fly-ash. He said NTPC had already signed agreements with three cement companies for setting up cement grinding units near NTPC power stations.

During the technical session, experts from the Central Road Research Institute, the National Council for Cement & Building Material, the Cement Manufacturers' Association, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the Energy Institute and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research shared their views for effective use of fly-ash.

Noida school show

NEW DELHI SEPT. 27. Vishwa Bharati Public School in Noida will host a lecture-cum-demonstration programme by eminent sitarist Debu Choudhuri under the auspices of SPIC MACAY Virasat Series-2004 on Tuesday, September 28, at 9-30 a.m. in the school premises.

Founder's Day celebrated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 27. The Jagan Nath Kaushal Jurisprudence Centre celebrated its eighth Founder's Day along with Patron's Day in honour of its patron, Rajeshwar Prasad, at Chattarpur in South Delhi on Sunday.

The chief guest on the occasion was the Delhi Chief Secretary, S. Reghunathan, who presented the CSKM-JKJC Award of Honour to senior advocate, H.L. Kumar, on this occasion.

The function was also attended by the Chairman of CSKM Group of Institutions, P. S. Satsangi, the principal, Shakuntla S. Jaiman, and Mr. Prasad himself.
