CHENNAI, SEPT. 27 . The State Election Commission said 63 per cent votes were polled in the by-election to the Corporation Council ward - 7 at Tondiarpet on Monday. According to the officials, a total of 12,246 out of a total 19,452 people voted in the 17 polling stations in 7 polling centres. The Corporation School on Seniamman Koil Street at Tondiarpet, which was the scene of stone-throwing and police lathicharge this morning, polling was over 70 per cent. According to polling officials there, the total votes polled in the booths -- 105, 106 and 107 -- were all over 70 per cent. Polling in 107 M (Male) booth had crossed 60 per cent by 11.30 a.m. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the MDMK have appealed to the State Election Commission to order a re-poll because of the violence.
