THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 27. The operation theatre `A' complex at the Medical College hospital, which has been renovated at over Rs. one crore, is now ready for commissioning. The centrally air-conditioned theatre complex has all modern amenities including centralised oxygen supply and facilities for sterilisation and fumigation. A total of 10 operation tables have been arranged in the complex, with four tables, including key-hole surgery facilities for General Surgery, two tables each for Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery and one each for Neuro surgery and Surgical gastroenterology. Special arrangements for laproscopic surgeries; C-arm and autoclave machines, one of the long-standing demands of the Ortho department, have also been facilitated.
Staff appointed
The opening of the renovated theatre had been delayed owing to the inadequacy of staff, including that of anaesthetists, nurses and theatre technicians. The situation arose after original staff of the `A' complex were re-deployed at the new `C' theatre complex attached to the casualty. New staff appointments are being made through the hospital development society for the renovated theatre. The complex will be formally inaugurated by the Health Minister, K. K. Ramachandran, on September 29. K. Mohankumar, MLA, will preside over the function. The theatre might become operational only after a week or two as sterilisation procedures have to be carried out.
