ISLAMABAD, SEPT. 28. In a countrywide crackdown in the aftermath of the killing of Amjad Farooqui, Pakistan has claimed that it detained a number of suspected militants. Private television news channels reported that at least 11 militants had been arrested from different parts of the country and investigations about their links to Farooqui and his network were in progress. Farooqui, believed to be the brain behind the two assassination attempts on the President, Pervez Musharraf, is considered to be one of the key leaders of Al-Qaeda in Pakistan. He had been reportedly active for the last 10 months in tribal areas, the theatre of unrest where a number of Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders are sheltered.
