Letters to the Editor
Sir, Both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pervez Musharraf should be congratulated for taking the process of détente a few steps forward when they met in New York. As you have rightly said in the editorial, "Détente as an imperative" (Sept. 28) it must be pursued without any let-up. It is worth recalling what Mikhail Gorbachev said in his tribute to Ronald Reagan: "In the final outcome, our insistence on dialogue proved fully justified. I find that the main lesson of those years is the need for dialogue, which must not be broken off whatever the challenges and complications we have to face." Kangayam R. Rangaswamy, Madison, Wisconsin
