Ill-advised

Sir, — The demand for a separate state of Vidharbha is not in the nation's interest. The backwardness of the region can be tackled better if it remains in Maharashtra.

Those who really wish Vidharbha to develop should ask for better roads, more hospitals, schools, colleges and industries.

A separate State is not always the answer for backwardness. Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh were carved out of Assam. But they have not seen any significant development.

K.G. Acharya,
Mumbai
