Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 28. T he Communist Party of India (CPI)'s Pondicherry state secretary, N. Kalainathan, has called upon the administration to immediately set up a committee under a Madras High court judge to probe land grabs by `anti-social elements' over the last few years. He said incidents of `property grabbing' were alarming purchasers of plots and immovable property. Mr. Kalainathan said the administration should also form another committee to find out the contents of a number of wills deposited decades ago with the District Registration office by property owners here. The wills had not been perused and were lying idle at the District Registration office. This has widened the scope for land sharks to sell off the properties obtained by them. The CPI leader said the Government should publicise the report of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), G. Ragesh Chandra, who had held an enquiry into the attempted expropriation of a palatial house in the heart of the town by a group of persons.
