Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 28. It rained almost non-stop for five hours since 8 a.m. today in Pondicherry. School-going children, office-goers, daily wage earners and business houses were hit. The Union Territory, which till 8.30 a.m. yesterday recorded 7.1 cm rainfall, was in for another wet day today. Official circles claimed that the sub-soil water level had risen considerably. The desilting and deepening of irrigation tanks with the Rs. 32-crore assistance provided by the European Commission had led to a slow, but steady inflow into the tanks. The rain will help the samba crop, said an official.
