More cotton markets in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, SEPT.28. Eleven cotton markets have been developed in Haryana, with the assistance of the Technology Mission on Cotton (TMC) of the Union Textile Ministry, at a cost of Rs.21.91 crores.

An official spokesman of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) said here today that the TMC had accorded sanction to reimburse over Rs.11 crores spent on the improvement of eight existing cotton markets at Ellenabad, Sirsa, Dabwali, Hisar, Fatehabad, Kalanwali, Uchana and Hansi and development of three new mandis at Narwana (Phase-II),Uklana and Bhiwani.

The Board had undertaken a programme to develop new grain and vegetable markets and to provide additional facilities in the existing ones, he added. It had also constructed godowns of 39,750 metric tonnes capacity at Chhachhrauli, Karnal, Jind, Barwala in Hisar district, Uklana, Rohtak, Jeewan Nagar and Panipat, thus raising the capacity to about 4.27 lakh metric tonnes.
