ADILABAD, SEPT. 28. The Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, on Tuesday conducted an `open inquiry' into the alleged misappropriation of 450 quintals of rice pertaining to land development work at Chandpalli village in Bela mandal. The MLA organised the open on-field inquiry in the presence of journalists from Adilabad.
The allegation
The misappropriation related to rice under the SGRY stream-I, 40 per cent ZP sector scheme wherein each of the 72 ST beneficiaries from Chandpalli village ought to have been given 6.25 quintals of rice amounting to Rs. 5,000 for the purpose of land development in 2002-2003. The allegation was that instead of land development some cosmetic land tilling was done by a private contractor belonging to Telugu Desam Party during the period in question. The rice quota was said to have been misappropriated by the contractor with whom some officials allegedly colluded. At the inquiry, villagers alleged that last year one person had offered to develop agricultural fields of the 72 beneficiaries. However, he did not inform them under what scheme the land development was being done. The villagers staged a dharna demanding punishment to the guilty. The villagers demanded action against the officials who were a party to the scam.
