Perfetti's sugar-free chewing gum

NEW DELHI: The Indian arm of Italian confectionery manufacturer, Perfetti Van Melle, on Tuesday launched sugar-free chewing gum, Happydent Protex. "With 13 brands, eight of which were launched this year, we command a 25 per cent market share of Rs. 1,600 crore confectionary market in India. We are growing at 3-4 per cent annually and to further fuel this growth, we will soon launch three new products," said Stefano Pelle, Managing Director, Perfetti Van Melle India. Mr. Pelle claimed that the specially formulated sugar-free chewing gum helped in tooth decay. Happydent Protex contains Xylitol, a naturally occurring sugar substitute found in many fruits and vegetables, which helped in maintaining healthy teeth. He also said the company was eyeing the Bangladesh market for which expansion of its Indian facilities was on anvil. — Our Staff Reporter
