HASSAN, SEPT. 28. Efforts are on by the Government to include Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola in the list of World Heritage Sites, the Deputy Commissioner, K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gowda, has said. He was inaugurating a function organised by the district administration and the Department of Tourism to celebrate World Tourism Day here on Monday. The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration was preparing a detailed proposal in this regard. The inclusion of Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelagola in the list of World Heritage Sites would boost tourism in the region. The President of Hassan City Municipal Council, G.T. Kumar, said many tourist centres in the district such as Doddagaddavalli, Nuggehalli, Kondajji, Koravangala, and Adagur had been neglected. S.M. Anand, MLC, said the people of Belur were apprehensive about including the temple town in the list of World Heritage Sites. He appealed to the authorities concerned to improve the garden in Hemavathi Reservoir in Gorur like the Brindavan Gardens in Mysore.
