TIRUPATI. Sept. 28. Apparently piqued by the fact that no department, be it Central or State Government, has ever taken its `mandatory approval' for their construction activities during the last 22 years of its existence, the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is trying to assert its position. It is convening a meeting on October 1 with heads of all the Central, State, quasi-Government departments and PSUs over the `lapse' they had committed in total violation of the Urban Development and the Town Planning Act.
Among the departments, which had allegedly violated TUDA rules and had been put on notice were the TTD, the four universities in Tirupati, BSNL, National Airport Authority of India, Railways, etc. The TUDA, in its letter, had asserted that even Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara, fell under its jurisdiction and this was likely to become a contentious issue at the scheduled meeting. Tirupati, Chandragiri, Renigunta and 86 other villages around them also came under its jurisdiction, the letter said.
