Monsoon vigorous over T.N.

CHENNAI, SEPT. 28. Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Tamil Nadu and active over Kerala.

Rainfall occurred at most places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala, at many places over Lakshadweep and coastal Karnataka and at a few places over Telangana. Isolated rainfall occurred over interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The following stations recorded very heavy rainfall in cms. Kottam (Kanyakumari dt.) 12, Mylaudy and Kannimar (both Kanyakumari dt.) 11 each, Tiruchendur (Tuticorin dt.), Thalasserry (Kannur dt.) and Chalakudy (Thrissur dt.) 8 each and Quilandy (Kozhikode dt.) and Kodungallur (Thrissur dt.) 7 each

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms are: Manamadurai (Sivagangai dt.), Manimuthar (Tirunelveli dt.), Sattankulam (Tuticorin dt.) Chittar - I (Kanyakumari dt.), Enamackel (Thrissur dt.) and Kochi Airport 6 each, Coonoor, Surulacode and Boothapandi (both Kanyakumari dt.), Cherthala (Alapuzha dt.) CIAL Kochi and Karkala (Udupi dt.) 5 each.

FORECAST (valid until Thursday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, coastal Karnataka, south Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Lakshadweep and at a few places over south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over north interior Karnataka, north caoastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala during the next 48 hours.
