Koodankulam project ahead of schedule

NAGERCOIL, SEPT. 28. The construction of two units (each 1000 MW) in Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project is going ahead of schedule with target completion of the first unit by March 2007 and the second unit in another six months, the Project Director, S.K. Agrawal, said today.

Setting up of the equipment was also going on along with the construction work. The major nuclear components have started reaching the project site and the first steam generator had reached the Tuticorin port. The condenser reached last month and the work to set it up would begin this October.

Mr. Agrawal was speaking to presspersons here after issuing appointment orders for the posts of junior assistant to 32 persons including a physically challenged woman.

The work for the erection of turbine generator, condenser and the secondary systems had been recently awarded to the Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited.
