NEW DELHI, SEPT. 28. The former Congress MP, Mallu Ravi, on Tuesday joined issue with the Telugu Desam Party and charged that the Opposition party attacked the self-respect and pride of people of the State by levelling `baseless charges' against the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Responding to the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu's complaint with the National Human Rights Commission regarding deaths in Anantpur district, Dr. Ravi said it was highly improper to level baseless allegations against the Chief Minister by describing him one who promotes factional-feud. Addressing a press conference, the former MP said the TDP was seeking to take political benefit from the situation and suggested that instead of making positive contribution towards improvement of situation, the Opposition was targeting the Chief Minister.
Welfare measures
"Calling him (Dr. Reddy) a criminal, is an insult to people of Andhra Pradesh since he is the Chief Minister heading a duly elected Government,'' Dr. Ravi, who is also a General Secretary of the State unit of Congress, said. He said the State Government had taken a series of steps to revive farm economy, which had been seriously affected and resulted in spate of suicides. The Congress Government had decided to supply free power to agricultural pump sets free of cost and also decided to waive all arrears of power bills on agricultural consumption.
