Flow rising

THENI, SEPT.28 . The flow into major dams in Theni district has been increasing steadily owing to heavy rain in catchment areas for the past one week.

The Periyar dam inflow stepped up to 2,748 cusecs from 1,199 cusecs and the Vaigai dam inflow to 1,525 cusecs from 1,325 cusecs today. Discharge from the Periyar and Vagai dams was 450 cusecs and 30 cusecs respectively.

The level stood at 116.50 feet in Periyar dam and 43.04 feet in Vaigai dam. The amounts of rainfall in mm: Periyar dam 8, Thekkadi 18, Goodalur 10.2, Uthamapalayam 2, Veerapandi 6.8 and Vagai dam 4.3.

While Theni district registered moderate rain, there were intermittent showers in some parts of Dindigul district.

Highest rainfall was recorded in Natham and lowest rainfall in Vedasanthur. The total rainfall in Dindigul district yesterday was 93.4 mm and average rainfall was 15.5 mm.

The amounts of rainfall in mm were: Dindigul 17, Nilakottai 9.4, Natham 36, Palani 14, Chatrapatti 12, Vedasanthur 5, Kodaikanal boat club 31.5, Kodaikanal observatory 22.9 and Vedasanthur and Tobacco Research Station 7.
