Indian shot dead by Nepal police

SILIGURI, SEPT. 28. An Indian national was shot dead by Nepal police, apparently mistaking him for a Maoist rebel at Pashupati close to India-Nepal border today, officials sources said.

``The victim might have been erroneously identified as a Maoist and shot at'', the sources said.

The Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling, Rajiv Mishra, said the victim was identified as Pashang Nuri Sherpa. In an FIR lodged in Sukhhpokhri police station in Darjeeling, his family members said he had crossed over to Nepali side in Pashupati to collect firewood. — PTI
