Rain likely

Forecast: A spell of rain or thundershowers.

At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 32.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum 25.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 72 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 76 per cent. At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 33.6 degrees Celsius and 25.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 74 per cent and at 5.30 p.m. was 69 per cent.Rainfall up to 8.30 a.m. was traced. The maximum and minimum temperatures at the Dolphin's Nose were 32.3 degrees Celsius and 23.7 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 70 per cent.

VSP park opened

The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Chairman and Managing Director, B.K. Panda, inaugurated the 1.6 acre Turnaround Park at Sector 11 of Ukkunagaram on Tuesday. The park, which has many amenities like bird shelter, play equipment for children, one kilometre walkway, etc., has been developed to mark the remarkable turnaround achieved by VSP in the recent past. The Directors, C. Appa Rao (personnel) and Y. Siva Sagar Rao (commercial), the Chief Vigilance Officer, M.K. Das, and the Executive Director (works), K. Ayyappa Naidu, participated.

BoI staff society dividend

The Bank of India Staff Cooperative Society Limited, at its 36th annual general body meeting on Monday, distributed the dividend (13 per cent) cheque to its shareholders. The society president, M.R. Krishna, chaired the AGM. Its secretary, B. Gurunadha Rao, who read the annual report for 2003-04, said that the society earned a net profit of Rs.9.85 lakhs.

Hindi fortnight

Hindi fortnight celebrations in the Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited concluded on Tuesday. Its General Manager, J. Ganta, who presided over the valedictory, advised employees to use simple Hindi terms in official work.

Wildlife Week

Several awareness programmes have been lined up for the Wildlife Conservation Week to be held at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park here from October 1. Green Mercy, a local NGO, is participating in the campaign, besides several international organisations, according to K.V. Ramana Murthy.
