The Cochin Port Trust Chairman, Jacob Thomas, will inaugurate the celebrations at 6 p.m. at the Merchant Navy Club. The theme will be introduced by Vijay Arora, Surveyor-in-Charge, Indian Register of Shipping, Kochi. The focus would be on International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) role in enhancing security of ships and ports. The IMO has contributed extensively in improving safety on board ships and protection of the environment, said a press release from the Cochin Port Trust here today. The Safety Of Life At Sea Convention and the International Convention for the prevention of pollution from ships are two landmark achievements under the IMO regime.
