Balakrishna appears in court

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEP. 28. Actor N. Balakrishna, his wife Vasundhara Devi and their car driver, Kanakaiah, appeared before the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate court here on Tuesday in connection with the criminal case registered against them following a shoot-out in the actor's Jubilee Hills house on the night of April 3.

This is the first appearance of the film actor in the court since the Jubilee Hills police filed chargesheet in the case three weeks ago. The Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate had formally transferred the case to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge court, as all attempt-to-murder cases, including the one registered against the actor on the charge of firing at film producer, B. Suresh, and the astrologer, Satyanarayana Choudhary, can be tried only by a Sessions Judge.

Trial date

This marks commencement of trial in the sensational case that shook the Telugu film industry and attracted attention of people. The Fifth MM Public Prosecutor, K. Chandrashekhar, said the Sessions Judge court would announce the date of commencement of trial and appearance of the accused later.

A couple of film producers and the actor's relatives waited outside the court before arrival of the actor. Balakrishna arrived around 11.10 a.m. and they immediately ushered him into the court.

Court formalities were completed within 10 minutes. A handful of the actor's fans raised slogans pledging support to him as he walked out. Despite repeated attempts by scribes, the actor chose to keep silent.
