BANGALORE, SEPT. 28. A retired Army official, Om Prakash, has been reported missing from Bharathinagar police station limits from Saturday. A sepoy who was suspected to have kidnapped Prakash and had surrendered to military officials has escaped from their custody. According to the police, Prakash left his house on Saturday morning and told his family members that he was going to a bank and to the house of Selva Kumar, a sepoy. When he did not return home till night, his family members enquired with Kumar, and he reportedly told them that he was not aware of Prakash's whereabouts. On seeing Prakash's bicycle in front of Kumar's house, his family members lodged a complaint of kidnapping at the Bharathinagar police station on Sunday. On learning about the complaint, Kumar surrendered before the military officials. He escaped from their custody, the police said. Meanwhile, the police, who checked Prakash's bank account, found that he had issued a cheque for Rs. 1.80 lakhs to one Joseph on Saturday and Joseph had withdrawn the money. Joseph reportedly told the police that Prakash had owed him the money.
