This Day That Age
Mr. C.C. Desai, Indian High Commissioner in Ceylon, met Mr. K. Kamaraj Nadar, Chief Minister, at the Secretariat in Madras on September 29, and had discussions with him on matters connected with Indian nationals and people of Indian origin in Ceylon and in particular the question of Indian nationals who are to be repatriated to India shortly. Mr. C. Subramaniam, Finance Minister, was present on the occasion, as also Mr. K. Ramunni Menon, Chief Secretary, and Mr. R. A. Gopalaswami, Home Secretary. At the end of the discussions, Mr. Desai told pressmen that about 25,000 people, holding temporary resident permits, which had expired or were due to expire shortly, would be repatriated in batches of 5,000 each once in three months. There were altogether about 75,000 temporary resident permit holders and the question of their repatriation would be dealt with from time to time.
