CHENNAI, SEPT. 29. From now on, chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand will carry the cause of disability in his wallet. And each time he hands out a visiting card, he will also be spreading the message of inclusion, ability and equal opportunity. A friend of Vidya Sagar school for children with disabilities, for some years now, Anand now has stationery befitting the school's global ambassador. And the behind-the-scenes designers are themselves children from Vidya Sagar. Releasing the stationery at the school, Mr. Anand said he was proud to be associated with Vidya Sagar. "I hope that every time I hand out this stationery, people get the message of disability," he said. A yellow knight on four squares of a chessboard now heads his letter paper, envelopes and visiting cards. Designed by 17-year-old M. Swaminathan and his friend, Vignesh, the idea was selected by Mr. Anand's wife, Aruna Anand, from a range of designs drawn up by the school's students. "We want him to take the message that people with disabilities also have abilities," said Poonam Natarajan, founder-director of Vidya Sagar, which works with children with neurological impairments like cerebral palsy and mental retardation. Students from the school came on stage to meet Anand and spoke about their experiences at Vidya Sagar.
