PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 29. With the formalities completed, it is expected that the new ration cards will be issued in the next two months. The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Welfare is currently cross checking with the parent documents the names, addresses and other particulars of the cardholders, according to official sources. A large number of residents from neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu are seeking fresh cards after surrendering their old ones to their respective taluks or districts. Currently 2.78 lakh families, including 96,700 coming under the Below Poverty Line, are covered under the ration cards. There will be an increase of 10 per cent when the fresh cards are issued in the Union Territory.
