PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 29. The Pondicherry administration has decided to reimburse 60 per cent of the fees for students from poor and lower middle-class families in unaided private professional colleges.
Assistance
A release from the Development-Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Education, B.V. Selvaraj, said here on Tuesday that the assistance, sanctioned under a new scheme "Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance for students of economically weaker sections" is aimed at covering students sponsored by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) of the Pondicherry Administration for courses in medicine, engineering and education in private colleges. The details of the scheme have been sent to the managements of all the professional institutions and they have been requested to collect only 40 per cent of the fees from students at the time of admission. The Government would reimburse the balance 60 per cent of the fees through the Directorate of Collegiate and Technical Education. The scheme is applicable to families whose annual income was less than Rs. 3 lakhs, the release said.
