TIRUPATI. Sept. 29. The two-day national workshop on `Cloud Seeding' which got under way in S.V. University here today under the aegis of the MST Radar Facility, Tirupati, and the University's Physics Department, would be adopting a couple of far-reaching resolutions in a bid to supplement the efforts of the State Government which is already engaged in the cloud seeding operations in some of the drought-hit and rain-shadow districts. According to D.Narayana Rao, Director of the MST Radar Facility, which works under the Ministry of Space, the recommendations and a report prepared on the basis of the proceedings of would be submitted to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who would be participating in the valedictory session as the guest of honour.
Technical backup
Talking to media persons here today, Mr. Rao said that the MST Radar Facility was ready to provide whatever technical backup was needed for a more effective and successful cloud seeding operation in the State. He said while the Radar Facility would serve as the `field station' to monitor the operations and provide more accurate technical data, the Department of Science and Technology, ISRO and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) would provide the required funds to help the centre coordinate with the State Government.
`Involve national labs'
On ways to increase the success rate of the cloud seeding operation, Mr. Narayana Rao said that there was a need to involve national scientific laboratories in the operations. He said the data for the operations currently in progress in the State was being provided by a US-based private company -- Weather Modification Inc and said that a representative of the company was participating in the workshop.
