MUMBAI, SEPT. 29. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, will launch the party's election campaign in Vidarbha in the first week of October, S. Muzaffar Hussain, media in-charge of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, said today. She is also expected to address meetings in Marathwada, northern Maharashtra, Konkan, including Mumbai, and western Maharashtra. The MPCC said that the campaign would also include separate meetings addressed by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, other senior Congressmen such as Ashok Gehlot, Salman Khurshid and Ambika Soni as well as Congress Chief Ministers Sheila Dikshit of Delhi, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of Andhra Pradesh, Dharam Singh of Karnataka and Oommen Chandy of Kerala. Shankarsinh Waghela and Ajit Jogi, both former Chief Ministers, as well as Union Ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad, Renuka Choudhury, Kapil Sibal, Kamal Nath and Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi will participate in the campaign. While the party spokesperson would not confirm whether Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi would campaign "there is a strong demand for them", he said other young MPs such as Jyotiraditya Scindia and Navin Jindal are slated to join the campaign. Given the short time for the campaign, Mr. Hussain said that the prominent members of the party would campaign simultaneously and separately in different regions.
