Centre denies reports

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 29. The Government today dismissed as "speculative and tendentious'' reports in a section of the press suggesting that the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has taken direct charge of matter relating to Jammu and Kashmir, the North-Eastern States and the naxalite-affected regions of the country.

"These reports are not accurate. All matters pertaining to internal security are dealt with by the Ministry of Home Affairs and by the relevant State Governments. There is no change in the situation,'' according to a clarification issued by the Prime Minister's Office here.
