BJP critical of Government

By Our Special Correspondent

ONGOLE, SEPT. 29. The BJP State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, has criticised the State Government for its failure to implement the special package promised for revival agricultural activity of the families of farmers who had committed suicide.

Party panels

Speaking to newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Reddy said the BJP had constituted nine committees to visit the affected families and find out the relief given to them by the Government. The committees would submit their report to the party State executive when it would meet in Hyderabad on October 24 and 25. Basing on their report, the executive would decide on its future course of action.

Mr. Reddy said that 1500 farmers committed suicide after the Congress came to power in the State. It had sanctioned Rs. 50,000 to repay the debts of the deceased farmers on pro rata basis. It had also sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh to help the affected family revive its agricultural activity through a special package. But the special package had not been implemented even for one family till now, he alleged.

Problems unsolved

He said the Government had also failed to keep its promise of free power to farmers. It also failed to solve the problems of anganwadi workers and junior doctors as promised during the elections.

Mr. Reddy, who is leading one of the nine committees, on Wednesday visited Mukthinuthalapadu, Thimmasamudram, Inkollu, Kothapalli, Rengangivaram and Kopperapadu and met the kin of the deceased farmers and enquired about their welfare.
