Karun teams up with Narain

CHENNAI, SEPT. 29. Karun Chandhok has taken another step towards achieving his dream of racing in Formula One, after making a shift to the Nissan World Series from the British F3 circuit. The 20 year-old will race alongside Narain Karthikeyan in the final four races of the World Series season, beginning with the one in Valencia on October 17.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Chandhok said he had undergone a short test with the Italian-based Tata RC Motorsport last week in Barcelona, where he did around 80 laps.

"It was a great experience and I went through a lot of new things like pit-stops," Chandhok said.

"This year in F3 was very hard," Chandhok said. "We were always on the backfoot due to limited testing owing to a dearth of funds."

The driver said that the move came as a result of a talk with Karthikeyan in Germany recently. "I was in Germany to watch one of the World Series races and to speak with the teams about doing some testing at the end of the year," said Chandhok. "While I was there, Narain suggested to me that the best way to learn and gain experience would be to do some races instead of just testing and as things turned out there was an opportunity to do it."

The move to the World Series comes a little earlier than expected, but Chandhok expects it will give him more time on the learning curve.
