Mangalore
By Our Staff Correspondent
MANGALORE, SEPT. 29. "Every individual needs fresh air, potable water, food, clothing and shelter to lead a good life, and funds are needed to provide these things in life. Employment is necessary to earn. The rural illiterate women see a ray of hope in the beedi industry as it employs them,'' the Director of Samanvaya, Mangalore, Ronald Cutinha, has said. Inaugurating an awareness programme for beedi workers sponsored by Samanvaya, Asha Kiran Trust and Sri Devi College of Social Work and organised by four self-help groups at the Panir Primary School near here recently, Dr. Cutinha said the Government and other organisations offered them facilities such as medical and health care. It was important to create awareness about these. These facilities should be available to every rural woman and the women should not be deprived of them because of (their) ignorance (about the facilities).
