Mangalore
By Our Staff Correspondent
By Our Staff Correspondent MANGALORE, SEPT. 29. Kalbavi Prakash Rao, managing partner of Kalbavi Cashews, was unanimously elected president of the Mangalore Cashew Manufacturers' Association at its 49th annual general meeting here recently. A press release from the association here on Wednesday said the association, which came into existence on July 11, 1955, would celebrate its Golden Jubilee this year. While the meeting decided to celebrate it throughout the year, it also resolved to seek an additional quantity of one lakh tonnes of raw cashew nut production in the State and to request the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India to set up office here.
Request
The association felt that since export-import operations were growing here, the council should be requested to have its office here to ensure smooth growth in exports. It was estimated that the city would export cashews worth Rs. 200 crores and raw cashew nuts over 25,000 tonnes in 2004-05. This was a record 60 per cent growth compared to last year. It was projected that exports from the city would cross Rs. 300 crores if necessary impetus was provided.
