By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, SEPT. 29. Four persons, who were found struggling to breathe in the security room of a private factory at Kumbalgodu on Mysore Road, were declared dead when they were brought to a hospital here on Wednesday.

The police said the victims, who were working at the factory of Bangalore Chemicals Corporation reportedly finished their work around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. They had their food later and slept in a room meant for security guards, about 100 feet from the main factory. The security guard found them struggling for life at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Nagaraj, owner of the factory, who rushed to the spot, shifted them to a nursing home at Vijayanagar. They were declared dead on arrival at the nursing home. The bodies have been sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. The police said the cause of their death was not known. The police suspect that food poisoning could be one of the causes. They were verifying whether inhalation of some chemical substance had caused the death.

The names of the victims were given as Chikkappa (24) of Byadarahalli in Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district, who worked as boiler operator, Girish (19) of a village near Dharwad, Renuprasad (26) of Hirisave, Hassan, and Lokesh (25), all helpers. Though post-mortem was conducted on the bodies of Girish and Renukaprasad, the cause of death could not be established, the police said. They said the viscera and parts of the lungs and blood sample taken from the bodies were being sent for chemical analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) here for further investigation. The bodies of Girish and Renukaprasad were handed over to their relatives, the police said. The post-mortem on the other two bodies would be conducted on Thursday. The chemical experts would be requested to visit the factory to find out the cause of death.
