Youth festival on Oct. 8, 9

BANGALORE UNIVERSITY is all set to organise a youth festival on October 8 and 9 at its Central College and Jnanabharathi campuses. The festival's objective "is to provide a platform for budding artists to exhibit their talents and to select a contingent of young talents to represent the university in the South-Zone inter-university youth festival to be held in Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, from December 17 to 21."

The affiliated colleges of the university can send their entries to V. Nagesha, Convenor, Bangalore University Youth Festival, Department of Performing Arts, Sneha Bhavan, Jnanabharathi campus. The events lined up for the fest are: Music (classical vocal solo — Hindustani and Carnatic, classical instrumental solo — percussion, classical instrumental solo — non-percussion, light vocal — Indian, Western Vocal — solo, group song — Indian and group song (Western); dance (folk, tribal and classical); literary (quiz, debate, and elocution); theatre (One act play, skit, mime, mimicry, mono acting) and Fine Arts (on-the-spot painting, collage, poster-making, clay-modelling, cartooning and rangoli). THE DEPARTMENT of Physics and Electronics of NMKRV College for Women has organised a State-level UGC sponsored seminar on "Recent advances in nanotechnology and smart materials" on Thursday and Friday for physics teachers in undergraduate colleges. The topic for the seminar is: "A new era in scientific research." "Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the seminar title, resource persons have been drawn from Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences and Engineering fields," said the organisers. Over 60 undergraduate teachers are expected to participate in the event.

THE INSTITUTE of Finance and International Management (IFIM) recently initiated a Connect programme, a connecting ground for its alumni. The first meet of the initiative provided a platform to over 500 former students to exchange information and ideas on the corporate world, its developments and trends.

The IFIM Connect programme will maintain a database of students to track their career graphs, start an IFIM newsletter to keep the former students update on the developments in the college and ensure continuous interaction between the college and former students. Plans are afoot to set up a website.

TEAMS FROM the St. Joseph's Pre-University College won the mad-ads event "Mad Max's Fever" and business quiz "The Catalyst" and then walked away with the overall champions trophy at "Sphoorthi 2004," the South India Commerce Fest organised recently by Shri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College.

Students from 18 colleges from the city and five outstation colleges took part in the fest. Among the colleges represented were St. Aloysious, Mangalore; M.E.S., Presidency PU College, Vijaya PU College, and Surana College. The business quiz was hosted by Giri "Pickbrain" Balasubramaniam.

THE CHRIST College team won the overall trophy at "Tejas 2004," a two-day intercollegiate management fest organised by Sitadevi Ratanchand Nahar Adarsh College. Christ College also finished first in the quiz "Ras Prashna" and crisis management event "Charkavyuh" and second in Mad Ads.

The team from Centre for Management Studies won the Mad Ads event while Garden City College took the first place in Fashion Show, "Halli Chalo". The marketing event, "Dravya Darshanam", was won by the St. Joseph's Commerce College team and the dance event, "Nritya Vahini", by Mount Carmel College.

THE BANGALORE University has permitted Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies to start three postgraduate programmes — Master of Social Work, M.S. Communication, and postgraduate diploma in Business Administration.
